Large format promotional poster printed on sturdy low-gloss white paper; full dimensions H 30" x L 20" with the inset b/w photographic image as H 18"x L 14." Image shows two Depression-era young barefooted girls to the right and left of a water fountain with a third child being hoisted to the fountain's rim so as to sip from the water spigot. Printed in bold black at poster's top margin is "WELTY" with photo caption immediately underneath image as well as two lines of text regarding the touring exhibition; at bottom of poster is remaining text regarding sponsorship by ExhibitsUSA, the National Endowment of the Arts, etc. The title of Welty's photograph WHEN THEY WERE FULL OF SWEETS was adopted from a passage in Welty's short story THE WINDS as presumed by its appearance on page 26 of the 1977 exhibition catalogue WELTY, AN EXHIBITION AT THE MISSISSIPPI STATE HISTORICAL MUSEUM. Several faint short creases to poster; bottom right corner of poster's blank reverse side has small patch of residue from removed bar code sticker. Still a bright and clean near fine copy.
