This is the 1897 reissue of the scarce 1726 original about Harvard. Inscribed by the author in a neat ink hand on the front FEP and dated May 1897. "Mr. Yale Rice, Falls Ch. Va, With regards of the Author, May 18/97." The author's signature is not present. Printed and presumed bound by The Gilliss Press. [Flourished 1869-1919.] Gilliss printed many of the fine productions of William Loring Andrews [1837-1927]. "Of this edition. there have been printed twenty-five copies on Imperial Japan paper and one hundred and fifteen copies on hand made paper, of which one hundred and thirty are for sale." This is one of 115 copies on laid paper, watermarked L. L. Brown. Cranberry buckram binding, with crisp gilt-stamped lettering to the front board and to the spine. Moderately bumped spine tail and lower corners. An exceptionally clean binding. Textblock firmly bound in, including the gatefold frontispiece. 38 numbered pages. 9.5 x 7 inches. With a fold-out frontispiece by W. Price and with 5 full-page copperplate engravings by William Burgis, all herein reproduced. Some of the tissue guards are wrinkled. Faint offsetting from the pastedowns to the opposite FEPs, trivial. Else a very clean copy. No dust jacket is present. A Near Fine copy.
