About this title

Synopsis:

This book, Quantifying Marketability Discounts, presents the Quantitative Marketability Discount Model as a tool to assist business appraisers in developing, quantifying and defending marketability discounts used in valuation reports based upon the specific facts and circumstances of each case. The book is also useful for attorneys, accountants and other professionals whose clients have valuation needs. If you are actively engaged in the valuation of businesses or rely on those services, this book should be in your library because the chances are great that it will be a resource for your competitors.

About the Author:

Z. Christopher Mercer, ASA, CFA is founder and Chief Executive Officer of Mercer Capital, one of the leading business appraisal and transaction advisory firms in the country. He is author of two books, QUANTIFYING MARKETABILITY DISCOUNTS and VALUING FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS.

In addition, Chris serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of "Valuation Strategies," a national magazine published by RIA Group dealing with current business appraisal issues and a member of the Editorial Review Board of the "Business Valuation Review," a quarterly journal published by the American Society of Appraisers. Chris is also the main contributor to Mercer Capitals newest publishing venture, The E-Law Business Valuation Perspective, an e-mail newsletter concentrating on valuation and transaction topics of interest to attorneys and other professionals advisors.

Chris holds an ASA desigation from the American Society of Appraisers and a CFA designation from the Association for Investment Management and Research. Chris doesnt just value businesses, he understands them. And that understanding has helped build Mercer Capital. Mercer Capital has provided over 2,500 business valuation opinions to clients in more than 40 states since its founding in 1982. Appraisal clients range from small businesses, with less than a million dollars of sales, to larger companies with more than a billion dollars of sales or value.

Chris has testified as an expert witness on business valuation issues in numerous state and federal courts. But he is prouder of the many hundreds of Mercer Capital appraisals that have simply been accepted as being definitive of value for their intended purposes by the affected parties.

Chris is a member of the National Speakers Association and is one of the most sought after speakers on business appraisal issues in the country. His recent speeches have been in locations ranging from Los Angeles to Washington, DC to Lake Tahoe to San Juan, Puerto Rico to New York.
