Synopsis: Seventy quilts are featured in a descriptive volume, featuring expert commentary and capturing a range of international styles, including eighteenth-century applique, Civil-War commemorative quilts, Amish quilts, and more.
From Library Journal:
In preparing this coffee-table gallery of quilts produced from 1712 to 1930, textile historian Baird gathered from museums and private collections some 70 quilts made primarily by American and British quiltmakers. The book's generous 12" x 12" size affords an ample full-color view of a wide variety of quilts, although in some instances additional closeups of individual quilt detail would have added immensely to the book's value as a textile study aid. In addition to familiar patchwork and applique quilts, lesser-known quilt forms such as fabric inlay, quilted palampores, and embroidered whole cloth quilts are featured. Descriptions of each quilt outline its place in the history of the medium. Recommended for historical textile collections and for general collections where demand warrants.
