Vintage original 14 x 22" (35 x 55 cm.) window card poster, USA. Douglas MacLean, Shirley Mason, Wade Boteler, dir: Edward F. Cline; Paramount. Silent comedy for which original story/screenwriter and character actor Wade Boteler played a major role. Usually cast as cops, he co-wrote this vehicle for Douglas MacLean (who would soon leave acting and become a top producer at Paramount). Though this film is not remembered, it did feature an early appearance of Boris Karloff as a crook. The film was an adventure farce about a marine sergeant who jumps ship when he is about to be put in the brig for being the ringleader of an on-board war between the gobs and leathernecks. While on the run, he falls in love with a telephone operator and unmasks a mail robbery, making him a hero. A wonderful graphic design is the main interest here, with the star and title treatment contained in the umbrella image. Clean imprint for the Colonial Theatre. Cleaned and backed, there has been a bit of touch-up in "Colonial," and a few inner creases/scratches addressed in the left top area. A crease/tear at mid right edge into the "N" of "RAIN" addressed and an 8" (20 cm.) crease/tear above the Paramount logo which has been touched-up. Sharp, saturated colors. NEAR FINE.
