Vintage original 11 x 14" (28 x 35 cm.) title lobby card, USA. Alan Hale, Kathryn Crawford, Walter O'Keefe, Josephine Dunn, Ilka Chase, dir: Leo McCarey; Pathe. Movies had found a voice and so they advertised their new product as such, "all sound", "all music" and "all dialogue." All the contract players were put through the rigors of making a musical film, whether they had musical ability or not. Unfortunately, except for one print of a two strip Technicolor reel of the film's title song number, this is considered a lost film. This card depicted the film as the "Musical Comedy Success," so we will have to take the studio's word for it. Leo McCarey directed many wonderful and fun films and, though we think of Alan Hale for his many robust character roles, he actually began in show biz attempting a career in opera. Kathryn Crawford, here with him, was known as a singer and came into early talkies after a Broadway career. Very saturated color, and nice early Art Deco feel. Minor soiling along top blank white margin, very soft crease at bottom left corner. ABOUT FINE. Bookseller Inventory #
