This FIRST ILLUSTRATED EDITION is a FIRST THUS with book in VERY GOOD ++ condition inside of VERY GOOD++ slipcase both with Near Fine color pastedowns. Book's copyright page says "Illustrated Edition First Published in 1945". Book is in VERY GOOD++ condition with textured tan cloth with approx 3" x 4" color pastedown of pony on top half of board in As New condition inside thick blue stamped border with thin blue border stamped near edges. Book's spine has blue text block with bold and bright gilt lettering. Book is illustrated with wonderful full color water colors by Dennis Wesley including pastedowns, title page and 1/2 and full page illustrations throughout text. Endpapers have two page full color Wesley illustration of wild horses running on beach. Book's spine tips and corners are true or gently bumped but not worn. Book's front board has minor rubbing and soiling with few tiny (under 1/4" spots) outside of slipcase near edges; otherwise book is Near Fine with binding and insides tight, bright, clean and unmarked. NO previous owner's or library markings, NO FOXING and NOT a book club edition or remainder. Slipcase is also in VERY GOOD ++ condition with approx 5" x 6" color pastedown with pony's head looking over fence with bold black lettering above and below and framed by 1/4" orange horizontal borders on top and bottom. Pastedown is Near Fine with only very mild rubbing to edges and tiny (1/16") nick at very bottom left corner. Slipcase's corners are either true, or gently bumped and lightly worn with very mild edge wear on open edge in one 2" section and very mild rubbing/soiling around outside of case by edges in few spots otherwise case is Near Fine. This is the Zeese-Wilkinson printing. Very handsome and collectible copy in wonderful slipcase. THE RED PONY, copyright 1945, hardcover with slipcase, 6.5" x 9.5", 131 pp with all three outside edges of text blocks died dark blue/green. Bookseller Inventory # 003029
