Iler Pope operated Dante by the River Restaurant in the Riverbend neighborhood of Uptown New Orleans from 1977 to 1986 and, after a hiatus of a few years, Café Atchafalaya on Louisiana Avenue from 1991 to 2004. A native of Drew, Mississippi, Iler Pope was noted for Southern cuisine blending some New Orleans creole elements into a primary cooking style based upon her Mississippi Delta region roots.
