Brooks was the Consultant in Poetry for the Library of Congress from 1985 to 1986. This volume includes her introductions of visiting writers during that period.

About the Author:

Gwendolyn Brooks was the first African American to win the Pulitzer prize (1950), and she was the poetry consultant for the Library of Congress and the Poet Laureate of Illinois.
