It was im possible to give adequate information in the author s pam phlet on the Gary Church School Plan. Even the enlarged second edition Of that lea et, because of the limitations as to space, had to leave some important matters untouched. A fuller treatment of these subjects has been possible in the present volume. More than thirty different communities have under taken the organization of classes for week-day religious instruction during the past five months. A still larger number Of communities are planning to begin this type of work before the end of the present school year. If the movement continues to grow in the geometrical ratio which has characterized its growth for the past two or three years, it will soon assume proportions overshadowing every other educational agency of the Church. Book Description Forgotten Books, United States, 2015. Paperback. Book Condition: New. 229 x 152 mm. Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****.Excerpt from Human Geography in the Air Age, (a Text for High School Students) Second, it seeks to provide pertinent aviation materials which may be woven into existing courses in the curricula of the secondary schools and, wherever feasible, of the elementary schools. To name all the men, women, schools, aviation industries and authorities, publishers, representatives of colleges, universities, school systems, non-profit institutions and agencies of State and Federal Governments who made possible the Air-Age Education Series would be a difficult task. In individual books, authors have acknowledged assistance and advice from many sources. Yet the series owes its existence more particularly to a few individuals and organizations. Special acknowledgments are due to Mr. Robert H. Hinckley, who, as Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Air, was the pioneer advocate of air-conditioning America; to Mr. C. I. Stanton, Administrator of the Civil Aeronautics Administration, who gave essential support to a program of aviation-education research; to Mr. Bruce Uthus of the Civil Aeronautics Administration, whose encouragement, resourcefulness, and ability so largely account for the development of the Air-Age Education Series; to Dr. John W. Studebaker, United States Commissioner of Education, who has done much to prepare American education to meet the challenge of the air age; to Professor N. L. Engelhardt, Teachers College, Columbia University, and his colleagues, who guided the development of materials reflected in this book and related teaching materials; and, finally, to Teachers College, Columbia University for the provision of indispensable office space, library, and other research facilities. The Institute of the Aeronautical Sciences, a non-profit scientific society devoted to the advancement of aeronautics, is glad to sponsor the Air-Age Education Series in the belief that it will aid American education to eliminate the hiatus between technical aeronautical advances and popular understanding of aviation as a revolutionary world force today and tomorrow. Book Description Forgotten Books, United States, 2015. Paperback. Book Condition: New. 229 x 152 mm. Language: English . Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****.Excerpt from The High-School Age Probably most people appreciate that a human being in his progress from birth to maturity passes through certain ages or epochs, each characterized by peculiar tendencies and activities. If one should ask a man whose business it is to study human nature for practical reasons which of these epochs is of the greatest importance, he would undoubtedly say the period of the teens. He would probably declare that during this period the individual is being molded into final form in body and mind, and that whatever impressions can be made upon him at this time will be likely to be permanent. People are beginning to take this view; for during the last few years much has been said by observers and investigators respecting the chief characteristics of this period. All have noted the appearance of new interests and activities, and the development of extreme sensitiveness to various influences which have been practically unnoticed up until this time. The views of the practical man of affairs and the scientific student of mental development have been in accord with the views of the poets, who never tire of describing the freshness and enthusiasm and abounding vigor, as well as the excesses and the strains and stresses of this age. In planning the series on Childhood and Youth, it was provided that much attention should be given to a practical discussion of the epoch covered substantially by the high-school period.
