Tall, thick 8vo, publisher’s original dark green cloth lettered in gilt on the upper cover and spine. [xx], 373 pp. A fine and very pleasing copy, the cloth bright and the gilt in good order, very minimal evidence age. Text-block clean and sound. An unusually well preserved copy. FIRST EDITION OF A SCARCE AND A CORE BOOK IN HERPETOLOGY. Raymond Ditmars was Curator of Reptiles in the New York Zoological Park. In the book, Ditmars has sought to compile a popular review of a great fauna--the Reptiles of of the Eastern and Western Hemispheres. He has excluded technical phraseology and tried to produce two results: 1. A popular book that may be comprehended by the beginner and 2. a book valuable in its details to the technical worker. The camera was Ditmars’ most useful ally in the creation of the book. The illustrations were procured under the most varied conditions, but most of the exposures of from one to five seconds were taken through a ray filter. Bookseller Inventory # 27298
