About this Item

8vo. 252p. Illustrated with black and white drawings as chapter headpieces and on the title page by Rachel S. Horne. Green cloth with green letters on the front cover and green and gilt letters on the spine. No noticeable wear to extremities, cloth clean and bright, letters bright, previous owners very small rubber stamp on the front free endpaper [Ken Trathen], else near fine to fine with all illustrations in fine condition and no internal markings. Dust jacket spine just a shade darkened, with a couple of small tears to the lower right front corner (with nothing missing), else very good to near fine and not price-clipped. Frank Dufresne's forty years in bear country were mostly spent in Alaska. His reports helped Congress frame the first comprehensive Alaska Game Act and for several years he served as Director of the Alaska Game Commission. He has written several other books on wildlife, including ANIMALS AND FISHES OF ALASKA, THE GREAT OUTDOORS, and LURE OF THE OPEN. "It is most fortunate that this accurately descriptive volume should appear at this critical time when the future existence of the giant bears on Admirallty is in question. No one is better equipped than Frank Dufresne, either in experience or writing ability, to draw this splendid comparison with conditions of more than 30 years ago." [C.R. Gutermuth, Wildlife Management Institute]. Bookseller Inventory # 006662
