An original Delcroix photograph with hand-tinted color in an original Delcroix gilt studio frame with faint color inlay; Delcroix's signature is in the lower right corner but appears to have reproduced from the negative rather than actually being hand-signed on the image itself. Lacks backing paper on rear of frame; photograph has not been examined outside of the frame. Frame H 24cm x L 19cm; image H 16.5cm x L 11.25cm. Photograph has not been examined outside of the frame. Original photographs from Delcroix's studio are uncommon. A similar photograph appears with the title of "Ruelle d'Orleans" on page 63 of Delcroix's 1938 book PATIOS, STAIRWAYS AND IRON - LACE BALCONIES OF OLD NEW ORLEANS. With his stylistically unique images of the French Quarter and local environs Delcroix is regarded as among the best of all photographers who practiced their craft in New Orleans, a group which includes Arnold Genthe, Pops Whitsell, and Clarence John Laughlin. Delcroix combined shadow, composition, and soft focus to purposely create a romantic haziness on his glass plate negatives. He then applied soft pastel color by hand to further add nostalgic and mysterious qualities to the final print. Description copyright David Hallinan, Bookseller. Bookseller Inventory #
