Shaw Desmond. Ragnarok. Lon: Duckworth, 1926, stated 1st. edition, 351 pp. *** Near Fine in Fair dust jacket. SIGNED by Desmond on the front free end paper. *** Ragnarok is a term from Scandinavian mythology the means the Armageddon of the Gods. In this science fiction novel, World War I is just a prelude to the final struggle between the White Race and the Dark Races. The advanced nations, East and West, are developing newer and deadlier poison gases as well as more lethal means of warfare. A new energy source called Wireless Power has replaced fossil burning motors in aircraft, and is being rapidly employed in other forms of conveyance, peaceful and otherwise. When the horrific war finally erupts, Desmond provides a narrative of many of the disastrous events. *** This novel is definitely a classic period piece, and is exceedingly scarce. Signed copies are even rarer. *** Bound in dark blue cloth boards and spine with gilt lettering on the spine. Color illustrated Dust Jacket (not price clipped) is in a clear protective cover. The covers are clean with the lightest of wear, the two bottom corners slightly bumped. The jacket has medium soil and is worn with several tears (repaired on verso with clear archival tape) and chipping on edges, the biggest being approx. ¾ inch, a narrow vertical abrasion on the front panel. The contents are clean and complete in a good binding. Light foxing on end papers. Hinges cracked but still strong. *** 7.5 inches tall by 5.25 inches. Bookseller Inventory #
