On Saturday afternoons he would with his grandmother, walk to Kilbirnie to watch the movie matinees. It was the era of swashbuckling pirates and it was their deeds that shaped his life. These stories are mostly set in New Zealand around the late fifties and sixties, a British colony until 1947. It was first discovered by Captain James Cook In 1769, and after bitter internecine warfare between the indigenous tribes, combined with white-settler lawlessness the Maoris accepted Britains offer to govern the islands.
