About this title

Synopsis:

Demonstrating his belief in the powers of the kitchen table, Raising Kids and Tomatoes is a collection of Kasper's newspaper columns -- amusing tales about home life/kitchen life and recipes culled from his 20 years of writing about food for the Baltimore Sun. "My belief in the ability of the kitchen table to nuture good and strong thought permeates this collection of essays. In short, many of life's better moments happen at a kitchen table," he says. This book will probably make you laugh, it might make you cry, but it will definitely make you hungry.

From the Author:

After being trained as a kitchen-table eavesdropper, pursuing a career in journalism - a craft that encouraged quiet listening and vivid story telling - seemed logical.

My primary qualification to write about food was that I was an enthusiastic eater. I grew up in the Midwest, a region known for big eaters, in a household of four boys. During my teen-age years in St. Joseph, Mo. virtually all conversations with my parents began with them telling me to "close the refrigerator door."

My belief in the powers of the kitchen table, its ability to nurture good and strong thought, permeates this collections of essays. In short... many of life's better moments, happen at a kitchen table.
