1819 first edition in this form, the work having originally been published in 1759 under the title The History of Rasselas, Prince of Abissinia. A very attractive volume, bound in early 19th Century full leather, with rich gilt decoration and blind decoration on both front and back panels and raised bands and gilt decoration and title on the spine. The binding is in very good, tight condition, having been professionally re-backed, retaining the original spine covering, and with new marbled end papers. The 197-page text, with all outer edges gilt, is in very good+, tight, clean condition, with hardly any age-browning. Illustrated by 4 full-page engravings by A. Raimbach from pictures by R.
