About this Item

Paper covered boards with leather binding. With an illustrated frontispiece. 128 pages. Sherwood, the author of the Re-Captured Negro, wrote it as an anti-slavery moral tale for children. It follows the life of Dazee, from his capture in Sierra Leone to his captivity, etc. This work s bound with an account of the Greenland Inuit, John Sackhouse, chronicling his life as a stowaway and then among the English. This work is often found bound with the History of Prince Lee Boo. In POOR/FAIR condition. MISSING PAGES 119-122, with ¾ of each page torn out from page 111-118. This affects the John Sackhouse section, as well as the beginning of a section called a Good Example. A 2 by ½ inch uneven section missing from the upper portion of the frontispiece. Corner torn away from the last blank endpaper. The rest of the text block is intact and present, with no other tears or pieces missing. Heavy darkening to the rear cover. Moderate to heavy scuffing to the covers and extremities. Minor soiling. Several ownership signatures present to the first and last endpapers and inside covers. Heavy creasing to the corners of the first endpapers. Moderate to heavy uneven darkening throughout. Faint dampstain affecting a triangular section of the pages until about page 55.
