"Leadership is communication and communication is leadership." No truism could apply more aptly to any leader than to department chairs, deans, directors, vice presidents, chancellors, or presidents - and all other college and university administrators - regardless of rank or assignment.
Written exclusively for higher education administrators by a team with considerable experience in academic administration and communication, Reaching Out takes you through the 15 phases in the process of communicating with your constituencies. Each chapter contains examples of typical academic unit communication plans, programs, and projects.
The late Clay Schoenfeld had a long and distinguished career in academia becoming both emeritus dean and emeritus professor of the University of Wisconsin at Madison. His journalism background provided a foundation for teaching and writing. He wrote extensively about higher education leadership and mass communication and was an advocate for young professionals as they entered teaching and administration.
Clay was also involved in ecology issues, as he said long before they were known as ecology. He was the founding executive editor of "The Journal of Environmental Education" and presented classes and seminars across the United States.
