Wright and Potter Printing Company, State Printers, MA. Bartlett, a native of Haverhill, MA, was a Harvard student when the Civil War began. He lost a leg at Yorktown, was wounded at Port Hudson and again in the Wilderness. Bartlett was captured at Petersburg in the action around the Crater on 30 July 1864. After the war he distinguished himself as an impassioned advocate for peace and reconciliation between the North and the South. The book encompasses the program and the speeches associated with the dedication of a statue of General Bartlett. Speeches were given by then Governor of the Commonwealth, John L. Bates, an oration by Brigadier General Morris Schaff, and tributes by Captain W. Gordon McCabe and John S. Wise. The copy is signed by General Schaff once on the title page and again on Schaff’s picture. Very good copy of the first edition. 82 pages. Bookseller Inventory # 2709
