About this title

Best friends, Tom and Geoff, commute to work together. Their children go to the same school and their wives, Marilyn and Allison, are great friends. They lead ordinary and uneventful lives until, one summer day, Marilyn and Allison break out of their routine and do something very different. Red Backpack Pink Sarong is the story of how Tom and Geoff are uprooted from suburbia to journey halfway round the world on a mission that tests their resourcefulness and puts them in great danger. When they return, life for them will never be the same. Barry Arthur is a natural storyteller. He applies his unique style, insight and humour to the themes of marriage and friendship, and the desperation of middle age. A hilarious adventure set in England and Bali.

About the Author:

Barry Arthur was born in London and lived in England until at the age of twenty-two he boarded a ship to Australia (just to see what it was like). For the next thirty years he travelled extensively, living in France, England, Australia and Spain, and working intermittently, when completely unavoidable, as a Chartered Loss Adjuster. He currently lives with his wife, Linda, on a six-acre property in the Swan Valley, a wine-making region near Perth, Western Australia. He has written a memoir, Over the Wall to Andalucia, about renovating a semi-derelict farmhouse while practising self-sufficiency in Southern Spain.
