About this Item

A strong true first edition of the author's most controversial novel, set at a pre- World War II southern army post, at which the protagonists interact with passion, lust, and homosexuality. Her second novel, 'Reflections in a Golden Eye' was one of the first novels in the US to deal explicitly with homosexual relationships. The novel explores repressed desires and sexual obsessions in an army base. Basis for the 1967 John Huston film with Marlon Brando and Elizabeth Taylor. 1941 date on both title and copyright pages, signifying a first edition, first printing. Two-toned gray/beige boards with yellow and black lettering on the "R" in "Reflections." Corners slightly bumped, mild browning on inside covers. A tiny dot in blue ink on front board. Previous owner's signature in blue ink on ffep. Bookseller Inventory # 130355
