About this title

Synopsis:

A poetic rewriting of one of the classic books of wisdom uses the language of Constructive Living, an action-oriented lifeway based on Japanese psychotherapies, to craft an accessible work. 50,000 first printing.

From Library Journal:

The author, who has written many books on Japanese psychotherapy, notes in his introduction that this book is not a new translation of the famous Taoist treatise but an adaptation in terms of Reynolds's modern therapy called Constructive Living. Thus, it is of primary interest to students of this practice, though it may also be helpful to readers with a limited knowledge of Chinese traditions who are daunted by the translations of such scholars as Waley and Giles. Some may find the brevity and modern jargon of this rendering of the verses irreverent, but the calm practical wisdom of Lao Tzu still shines through. With color illustrations. Previewed in Prepub Alert, LJ 11/15/92.
