Besongne (Rouen, France), 3 3/4 x 6 1/4 inches tall full leather bound, five raised bands and gilt lettering to spine, all page edges red, marbled endpapers, engraved head- and tail-pieces, [10], 384 pp., complete. Covers bumped, rubbed and edgeworn, with cracking to front hinge at top and bottom and rear hinge at bottom, with 1/2-inch leather lacking from the lower backstrip. Black ink mark to front pastedown. Irish Jesuit priest's early prior owner name in a neat hand to top of title page (Fr. Henry Hughes, Dublin). A child's handwriting practice and prior owner name to verso of title page, with some offsetting to the adjacent letter from the publisher, J.B. Besongne. Very light marginal foxing to front and rear prelims. Otherwise, a very good copy - clean, bright and unmarked - of this scarce edition of this collection of Christian aphorisms by an anonymous abbot.
