About this title

Synopsis:

A poetic collection of prose ranging in topics from love, spirituality, and revolution. The heart and soul of Aja LaStarr shine through in this work of art.

About the Author:

Aja La’Starr is a hip hop/spoken word artist and educator from St. Louis, Missouri. She began rapping and reciting poetry during elementary school in the early 90’s. Aja graduated from Xavier University of Louisiana in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication and from the University of Phoenix in 2008 with a master’s degree in Business Administration. Aja is very compassionate about education, empowering the lives of young people, and rebuilding communities through collective collaborations. Through her spoken word/hip hop career, she has performed nationwide and has made several appearances on BET, as well as opened for Jill Scott, Mary J. Blige and rap mogul 50 Cent. As a freelance writer, her words have been featured in a plethora of publications such as: Diversity on Demand, The St. Louis American and University City Patch.com. She edited her first book, Crazed Sanity by Taylored Poet, which was released in April 2011; and during the summer of 2011, Aja served as lead instructor for The Risen Publishing Camp for Kids-a program that turned 15 adolescent students into published authors. Aja has helped to build several grassroots organizations throughout the country; and currently she serves as co-founder to her own organization, Ni’Afidahli, a grassroots organization that sponsors cultural arts events promoting awareness about issues that affects the African American community; as well as the founder of IAMHIPHOPSTL, a movement that is dedicated to educating communities about women in hip hop.
