About this title

Synopsis:

No More Rejections, An Insider's Guide gives writers an inside look at the story fundamentals that readers and publishers are looking for. Orr provides many examples of manuscripts that have been rejected, and provides a clear demonstration of what doesn't work from an editor's point of view. The 50 essentials that Orr discusses will help writers think about what they need to do prior to writing and submitting their work so that it has the best chance possible of being published. These essentials range from knowing the characters to knowing the target audience. Beyond the issues of crafting a story that is engaging, this book forces writers to look at what elements need to be in their stories in order for editiors to want to read them and for readers to want to buy them. In addition to actual manuscript and story examples, Orr offers hands-on exercises that correspond with each chapter so that writers not only read about what they need to do, but are led through the process. Her keen insight into the writing and publishing business will help writers get attention from editiors instead of getting rejected.

About the Author:

Alice Orr's personal muse led her to a life in publishing as teacher and writer, editor and literary agent. She was book editor for a New York City publishing house. With that experience to build on, she opened Alice Orr Literary Agency, also in New York, and worked with many talented, successful authors including New York Times bestsellers and numerous award winners.

Before, during and since all of that she has been a writer with eleven novels, two novellas and a memoir published so far. Her fiction has received national awards and appeared on Amazon's list of the most popular titles from her publisher & imprint.

She wrote her nonfiction book, No More Rejections: 50 Secrets to Writing a Manuscript That Sells, as a gift to the writing community she loves. It is a comprehensive guide to creating stories with agent-editor appeal. Amazon.com says, "This book has it all."

Alice's memoir Lifted to the Light: A Story of Struggle and Kindness is the story of her cancer experience and the people who carried her through to thrive as she does today.

Alice's romantic suspense series Riverton Road is set in a version of her hometown in Northern New York. The first book is titled A Wrong Way Home and features the first of the four Kalli brothers.

Alice leads workshops on writing fiction and memoir. She also shares her experience of both traditional and independent publishing in seminars that guide authors and workshops for readers that are simply fun.

Alice is past president of the New York City Chapter of Mystery Writers of America and past Vice-President of Sisters in Crime Mid-Atlantic Chapter. She was named Agent of the Year by both the New Jersey and New York Chapters of Romance Writers of America, and Editor of the Year by the National Booklovers Convention.

Alice is married and has two grown children and two perfect grandchildren.  She and her husband Jonathan live in New York City.
