About this Item

General D?valos was a native of Baeza, in the Andalucia region of Spain. He entered the service of the Armada de la Guardia de las Indias; later he served as corregidor of the province of Cicacica, and then as the governor and captain general of Santa Marta (in what is now Colombia). He attempted to found a Jesuit colegio in Oca?a but the archbishop of Bogot? opposed it. Later service included the defense of Cartagena against the French and numerous posts in the viceroyalty of Peru. Francisco de Andrada, of the Secretar?a del Consejo y C?mara de Indias, de la Negociaci?n del Per?, certifies the accuracy of this document and signs it at the end. Folio. [2] ff. Palau 259438.
