About the Author: Mary Hall Surface s work has been featured at Seattle Children s Theatre, Dallas Children s Theatre, Arizona s Childsplay, Honolulu Theatre of Youth, as well as fifteen productions at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. Touring productions of her plays have been presented in every region of the US, as well as in Ireland, France, Peru, Germany, Italy, Taiwan and across Canada. An anthology of her plays, MOST VALUABLE PLAYER AND FOUR OTHER ALL-STAR PLAYS FOR MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL AUDIENCES, was published by Smith and Kraus. She has been nominated for four Charles MacArthur Awards for Outstanding New Play, four Helen Hays Awards for Outstanding Direction (receiving the award in 2003 for her musical PERSEUS BAYOU) and two Parent s Choice awards for the original cast albums of her musicals. A national leader in her field, she coordinated New Visions 2000: One Theatre World, a national festival of theatre of young people and families, co-produced by the Kennedy Center and ASSITEJ/USA in May 2000. And she was awarded the 2006 Charlotte Chorpenning Prize for her outstanding body of work as a playwright by the American Alliance for Theatre and Education.
