Synopsis: Ever wanted to write your life story? Or wished you could help mum or dad, or grandma or grandpa write down their life story?
But where to begin? And how?
What to include?
How to remember it all?
Do you have to start at the beginning?
Do you have to have creative writing skills?

This the essential handbook for writers and non-writers wanting to write or record their own or a loved one's life story.

It helps people access their life memories with a wide range of trigger questions and subjects. You don't need to start at the beginning, just pick a chapter that stirs a memory.

It doesn't need the skill of a creative writer. Sometimes it is the simple everyday happenings that create fascinating glimpses into past lives.

Each chapter is preceded by humorous or poignant story examples, many from the author's own sometimes-delightfully eccentric family, as well as influences from European, Australian and Asian parents and cultures.

Whether you are writing your own or a relative's story, you simply need to ask the right questions. You might ask a grandparent what happens when they dived into the water in a hand-knitted swimming costume? Or why did women draw a brown line up the back of their legs?

The author believes it is especially important for generations to share their history and experiences, and there is no better way to do it than through family history and enjoyable stories.

The handbook helps you begin, can show you what to include, has hints to stimulate memories and a guide to getting to the heart of your story.

About the Author: John Hockney is a gifted professional storyteller and has used his experiences in working with seniors, community groups, schools and nursing homes as well as with diversional therapists, and aged care professionals to help readers unlock a wealth of memories. John was born and raised in Bradford in England, and is the brother of the renowned painter, David Hockney. He emigrated to Australia in 1964.
