A few small lightly darkened spots on front cover and spine, else very fine. -- The Censorship Commission was appointed by Alderman Otto Kerner, Chairman of the Judiciary Committee of the City Council [later Illinois Attoney General (and father of a future Governor of Illinois, Otto Kerner)], on November 23, 1918. - Among the members of the Commission was Alderman Anton J. Cermak [later Mayor of Chicago (who was assinated on February 15, 1933, in Miami, while standing next to President -Elect Franklin D. Roosevelt at a rally)]. -- Includes the November 27th, 1918 memorandum by the Second Deputy Supt. of Police, reporting the number of movies cut, for the following reasons: Unlawful 467, Immoral 220, Indecent (Comedy) 183, Indecent (Drama) 42, Nude 36, Obscene 17, Race 6, Creed 3, Total 974. - Among the 26 witnesses, whose testimony is reported, were William A. Brady, President of the National Association of Motion Picture Industry, and Arthur Ryan, representing the Big Four (Charley [sic] Chaplin, Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks, and David W. Griffith). -- Boldly inscribed on the front free endpaper, in ink: "To / Hon. Robert M. Schweitzer / compliments of / T. D. Hurley / Chicago, 4-4-21".
