This copy without the 19 plates. 19th century marbled boards, calf back and corners, marbled endpapers, marbled edges, abrasions on back and corners, boards rubbed. Lower margins of title-B2 and F1-U2 reinforced with paper, apparently without loss of text. Good, sound copy. Small "withdrawn" stamp and stamped number in lower margin of A2. Armorial bookplate of Sir John Mordaunt. "In the early part of the Year 1800 the State of Public Records was brought under the Consideration of the House of Commons; and thereupon a Select Committee was appointed 'to enquire into the State of the Public Records of Great Britain, and of such other Public Instruments, Rolls, Books, and Papers, as they should think proper; and to report to The House, the Nature and Condition thereof; together with what they should judge fit to be done, for the better Arrangement, Preservation, and convenient Use of the same.'" Including accounts of the formation, contents, and catalogues of the Cottonian, Harleian, and Lansdowne manuscript collections, a plan for the revision of Thomas Rymer's Foedera, and other public records of England, Scotland, and Ireland.
