Small 4to (6" X 9½"). 1p. Very good. Lightly, evenly age toned; remarkably clean and bold, completely free of edge tears. First edition of this brief legislative act (28th Congress, 2d Session), resolving "re-annexation of Texas to the United States" and " the recognition of the independence of Texas by the principal Governments of the world, and the successful maintenance of a national existence for nearly nine years, without any serious attempt at subjugation on the part of Mexico, are sufficient considerations to entitle her to be regarded, in all respects, as a sovereign and independent nation, capable of making treaties and forming alliances" and "the pretensions of Mexico to interfere in any arrangement between the United States and the Republic of Texas cannot be sustained on any principle of propriety or justice." Signed in type by W.P. Richardson as Speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives and by John Moore as Speaker of the Illinois Senate. Ordered to be printed on March 3, 1845 -- the last day in session of the 28th Congress. Interesting recording in the U.S. Congress of this state's resolution on this national issue.
