About this Item

"The primary purpose of this book is to help bring about a safer society, a society intent upon gradually eliminating the causes of sexual assault, a society with the capability of controlling and drastically reducing the high incidence of these damaging and unacceptable behaviors. RETRAINING ADULT SEX FFENDERS: METHODS AND MODELS addresses one component of a sexual-assault reduction model; the assessment and treatment of adult sex offenders. It provides a background for understanding the rapidly evolving, highly eclectic sex-offender treatment discipline being used to treat adult men who have been legally defined as 'sex offenders.' The goal of treatment is to teach the sex offender how to intervene in and control his sexually abusive or assaultive behaviors. The illegal offenses in which they have been involved generally include acts of rape and child sexual assault {including incest}, as well as the more common 'nuisance' offenses of exhibitionism, voyeurism, and frottage. RETRAINING ADULT SEX OFFENDERS, a descriptive study of 10 adult sex-offender treatment programs, is gleaned directly from the treatmernt specialists as they practice and create new therapeutic and educational interventions. Though difference exist among treatrment providers as to their underlying theories of the efficacy of one particular treatment approach over another, there is common agreement that a substantial number of sex offenders begin their habitual sexually assaultive patterns as adolscents and that the earlier the intervention the greater the potential for disrupting these patterns. Even after these patterns have become ingrained, however, the ability of adult male sex offenders to learn how to intervene and control such sexually aggressive behaviors is encouraging." This book has 319 pages. The text contains NO internal marks whatsoever. The front cover shows signs of being used. Overall, this is a VERY GOOD copy of this VERY SCARCE title.
