About this Item

First Impression (First published 1986 on copyright page) of the eleventh installment in O'Brian's Napoleonic-era seafaring saga. 8vo: 256pp. Publisher's hunter-green cloth, spine stamped gilt, original pictorial dust jacket, unclipped but unpriced (as were several in the Aubrey-Maturin series, especially those destined for the colonial market, which were priced at their destination market with stickers). About Fine (text and page edges age-toned, as almost always), about Fine jacket without even a trace of fading to spine panel, very light vertical crease running length of spine panel. Many copies in commerce are either ex-library or remainders, qualifying our example as scarce. One of the seminal novels of this series, in which Captain Aubrey plunges to the nadir of his naval career. After Aubrey is framed for financial fraud and tried unjustly, he is dismissed from service and removed from the all-important post-captain's list. N.B. With few exceptions (always identified), we only stock books in exceptional condition, with dust jackets carefully preserved in archival, removable polypropylene sleeves. All orders are packaged with care and posted promptly. Satisfaction guaranteed. Bookseller Inventory # BB1517
