Palfrey's extensive review of Philip Henry Stanhope's "The History of England from the Peace of Utrecht to the Peace of Versailles, 1713?1783" (7 vols., 1836?1853; an American edition of four vols. appeared in 1849). DNB says that it "still remains the best narrative of English history during the eighteenth century" and that his remarks on George Washington "involved him in a prolonged controversy with Jared Sparks, Palfrey, and other American writers." 8vo. [2 (blank)], 86 pp. Original wrappers, respined with cloth tape, chipped, paper shelving label in one corner of front wrapper. First two leaves chipped. Pamphlet creased lengthwise from folding.
