We collect books - what a surprise! Our particular instersts are Children's books of the golden age of the 1940's to the 1960's, and our particular authors are Elsie J Oxenham (Judy) and Monica Edwards (Richard). We also have more than a passing interest in Arthur Ransome, Malcolm Saville, Mabel Esther Allan (and aliases), Geoffrey Trease and someone called Blyton. Judy is into Pamela Brown, Kitty Barne, Noel Streatfeild, Lorna Hill, Gwendoline Courtney; Richard enjoys Pratchett, Asimov, McCaffrey, photography and Harvey's Sussex Bitter. Inevitably we try to improve our collection as well as adding to it. The former throws up duplicates and not-quite-so-goods, and the latter requires investment. It seems logical to try to balance the two up a little. That's why we can offer some quite nice books for sale. Since we have very limited space, visits are not really a possibility. By all means phone, though bear in mind, please, we're not a secondhand bookshop with regular hours! Email is the thing, really, and we're both happy to share out our own deathless prose by way of it to answer your questions.
Monica Edwards was one of the few authors to write fiction for young people which didn't patronise. Her moral standards were high without being forced onto the reader. As a result the books became, for me, a part of my upbringing.
Girls Gone By are in the process of republishing Monica's entire output in paperback and this is a welcome step indeed. Original copies are still around, though many titles are rare and consequently expensive. We are offering some, one or two of which are the rare ones. We can also help you find the reprints if you're interested.

This is Judy's speciality. In fact the books formed part of her childhood (no, she wasn't around when EJO startd writing them!) and the seeds of her love of folk dance could easily have been sown by them. Many enthusiasts have written about the world of EJO and there are very active societies too.
