Add to basketThis is an attractive set of Richter's Anchor Blocks housed in a wooden box with original color labels. The box states blocks are 6A but they are actually 10A. Also includes "Nr. 8 Richters Bauvorlagen", an instruction booklet with 18 pages of color illustrations and text in German, Dutch and French; a Ground Plan to help correctly position lowest layer when constructing designs; a Packing Design for "10A-New Edition" to provide the layout of the stones in the box. The wooden box has colorful, detailed labels on both sides of the lid and measures 13" x 9" x 2". This set was likely created circa 1905. Set is in good condition with moderate chipping and wear to box; booklet, ground plan, and packing design have moderate chipping, soiling and foxing; ground plan has two 4" tears at folds; blocks are in blue, red, and tan. An inventive and fun architecture set, Richter's Anchor Blocks were very popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Anchor building stones were made famous after savvy businessman, Friedrich A. Richter, acquired the rights and manufacturing technique from Otto and Gustav Lilienthal, inventors of the blocks. Richter developed a series of sets with a various number of heavy stone blocks, each set including design books, a ground plan and sheets of paper figures. In 1895 he trademarked the design as "Richter's Anchor Stone Building Sets" or "Richters Anker Steinbaukasten." By using exhibition models and gathering awards at architectural shows, providing glowing customer reviews, and marketing not only to children, but adults as well, Richter made sure these sets flew off the shelves for decades.
