About this title

Synopsis:

When her husband serves her with divorce papers for her fiftieth birthday, Amy Warren sets out to rebuild her self-esteem by backpacking across the Grand Canyon. She expected the hike to be difficult: heat, elevation, rattlesnakes; but when she finds a mangled body in a ravine and a series of suspicious events occur along the trail, the adventure takes a dangerous twist.Amy’s new friendship with experienced backpacker, Sarah Rochon, gives her the encouragement she needs to conquer the canyon’s natural dangers. Ranger Glen Hawk volunteers to safeguard the women from the unnatural dangers, but his offers of protection and affection are rebuffed by Amy who is not ready to trust her emotions. In the end, Amy solves the murder, discovers her own inner strengths, and brings peace back to the Grand Canyon and into her life.

About the Author:

Jeanne Meeks began backpacking in 2005 and hiked across the Grand Canyon before writing Rim to Rim, an adventure novel with a twist of mystery and romance. The second in the Backcountry Mystery Series, "Wolf Pack," set on Isle Royale, MI was inspired by a hiking trip to that magical island in Lake Superior. Ms. Meeks was an Outdoor Trainer for the Girl Scouts and a leader for twelve years. Her goal is to inspire young girls and older women to get out and enjoy nature. In the 1990s Ms. Meeks was committed to poetry, belonged to Poets and Other Writers, and gave poetry performances as part of that group. Her work appeared in several anthologies. She loves attending writers conventions, especially Love Is Murder in Chicago, and in 2019 she'll be speaking at Magnum Cum Murder, in Indianapolis. Both titles in the Backcountry Mystery series were nominated for the Illinois Author's Project sponsored by the Illinois Librarian Association. After the success of her first novel, Jeanne's tennis team encouraged her to put them in her next book. Gator Bait and Killer Serve are from the Tennis Team Mystery cozy series. After twenty-eight years in business, Ms. Meeks and her husband sold their security surveillance company in 2005. Ms. Meeks was recognized by the Illinois governor as the Small-Business Person of the Year. She was the Tax Collector for the township and has been the President of the Chamber of Commerce, on the board of a local bank, and on a hospital's Community Trustee Board. Ms. Meeks now writes full-time and belongs to Mystery Writers of America and writers' groups in Illinois and Florida. When not writing, Jeanne backpacks, kayaks, entertains the grandchildren, volunteers with the local historical society, and plays tennis or golf. Married in 1969, she lives with her husband on Florida's gulf coast and in a suburb of Chicago.
