VERY SCARCE FIRST PRINTING originally released in 1984 by Eden Hill publishers, before there was the more public 1986 release from Signature books. 6.25" x 9.25". 134 pages. POETRY collection from Pulitzer Prize winning biographer Merlo J. Pusey. Book is INSCRIBED to previous owner on right front endpaper "? With thanks for many favors and best wishes for a long and happy future, Merlo" Pusey was mostly known for his biographies about Supreme Court Justice Charles Evans Hughes, President Dwight D. Eisenhower and Eugene Meyer in addition to numerous articles for national magazines. Pusey was an editorial writer for the Washington Post for forty-three years starting in 1928; working as an associate editor there for the latter half of that period. For his Hughes Volumes Pusey was awarded the PULITZER PRIZE, the BANCROFT PRIZE for Biography, the Tamiment Institute Book Award and an honorary degree from the BRIGHAM YOUNG UNIVERSITY. Book is in VERY GOOD + condition with light blue textured cloth binding with bright gilt lettering on front cover and spine. Book's spine tips and corners are untouched. There is mild sunning around edges mostly on spine edge of front cover and there are faint sun spots on covers otherwise book is in Near Fine condition. Dustjacket is in GOOD+ condition. It is completely together with glossy blue cover with white lettering on front cover over a picture of wheat fields with ice covered mountains in the background. Jacket has wear around edges and spine tips & corners are bumped with chips from 1/8" to 1/2". Jacket shows rubbing mostly seen on solid navy blue back cover. There are two chips missing from spine that are 3/8" and 7/8". Book is tight with no markings inside. Very scarce book of poetry from this author who was known for and almost exclusively wrote biographies and editorials. Poetry categories "Courting Nature", "Looking Inward", "Render Unto God" and many others. Bookseller Inventory # 005972
