This inspiring collection of award winning short stories is the Virginia author's only book due to his early death in October 1930, before the book’s publication. At the time of his death, the publication was already planned, and he had selected the stories to be included as the best he had produced. His wife, Madge mcC. Patterson, PUBLISHED THE BOOK IN 1931. This unique copy is inscribed by His wife. The Negro of the South here dreams his lyric dreams, laughs his careless laughter, and loves and hates primitive passion. No reader can escape the intuitive feeling and sympathy of these unusual stories. With Negro dialect stories set in the American South; two of which deal with African-Americans in the South, purportedly a subject on which the author was an authority. Three stories originally appeared in "The Atlantic monthly" and another in "the Black Swan, the magazine of Virginia". The book is fine in dust jacket and very clean internally without any marks or stains. The dust jacket is not clipped with a closed tear to the top left and tiny edge chipping.
