Ten years of the farm accounts of Robert Loder (1589-1640) of the parish of Harwell on the north side of the Berkshire Downs, begun when he came into his inheritance in 1610. The farm consisted of arable in the open field strips of the East and West Fields, meadow lands and orchards. The principle cash crops were wheat and barley, whose malt was sent to Henley for shipment by barge to London, and fruit. Peas, beans and vetches were grown for forage for the farm's livestock. It was worked by horses and there were also a dairy herd, sheep flock and pigs. The accounts include wages and housekeeping, and their description and analysis is provided in the introduction, by the distinguished agricultural historian and bibliographer, George Edwin Fussell (1889-1990).
