About this Item

Flat signed by Ralph Ramos. Both book and jacket are in very good condition. Jacket protected by BroDart clear mylar cover. The stories of various places in East Texas are enhanced by the black and white photos of the storytellers themselves. Mr. Ramos begins his book by giving the reader a peek at the oldest houses in Sabine County, Texas, to include the Oliphant House and the Gaines House which had been moved to Highway 21, east of Milam. At the time of the writing, both houses were in desperate need of restoration. He also talks about the Bickley House, which was built sometime in the early 1800's. He has stories and pictures of The Westbrook Place, the Reeves Place, The Weaver House, and many more historic homesteads, some of which are presently no longer standing. From the oldest houses in East Texas, Mr. Ramos had numerous opportunities to interview some of the surviving "old-timers," giving us their stories from the heart of what it was like living in the early days of Texas. There are even pictures and short stories of the Center and Tenaha whittlers, and many other familiar spots and memories of East Texas. Bookseller Inventory # B000H47YCG
