About this seller

We are a family-run firm of booksellers who have been trading for over 35 years. Our aim has always been to supply decent condition books on a wide variety of subjects at realistic prices. We are based in the small Lincolnshire market town of Horncastle , situated midway between Lincoln and the coast. We know from our own experiences that buying "blind", so to speak, can be a shade tricky so we are always happy to supply pictures and try for as full a description as possible. We pack well and do our best to post promptly (within a couple of working days of receipt of order). We'll take things back if, after all that, you feel something's not as described. Occasionally Royal Mail lose an item. In such rare occurences we do what we can to try and trace it. By and large they're a miracle system - we send out umpteen parcels a week and most of the time they get there. But if there is a problem we try genuinely to help sort it out. We think we've got the balance about right. Our feedback on various sites seems to suggest this. We pack things efficiently and often list commonplace items at absurdly low prices simply because we are a business and would rather our books moved than sit languishing in a store-room somewhere. Many thanks in advance for buying or just looking. We know what a bewildering choice is available on-line these days. We appreciate you choosing us. You are most welcome as are any queries.

Terms of Sale

We go to a lot of trouble to describe fully each item on our listings - however if
you think something's not the way we said it was you may it return within 14 days in the same condition
it was received for full refund.

Shipping Terms

This is what we said here in 2018, the last time it was edited: "Postage and packing is charged at our rate listed with ABE. However it is worth pointing out that UK postage just goes on going up and that sending a huge Fine Art book to Timbuctoo is simply not going to travel there for six or seven quid. We feel that clarifying this is in everyone's interests and mention it because mostly we're not paperback merchants and include a sizeable number of hefty books in our stock."
Since then things have taken an even steeper down-turn; overseas shipping has become so expensive it's virtually impossible to send cheaper books anywhere simply because of the sites' policies of charging their commissions based on the combined price of book plus shipping. This was done originally because nobody could think of a way to circumvent those book firms, and we all know who they are, who insist on selling their books for twopence + shipping, and there's not much commission on twopence. However now that postage has gone through the roof and out the other side we have ended up with stalemate. Example - £8 book Economy to USA at £16 or £17, commission at approx 20% on £25 is £5. Net price of book before packaging costs £3. We won't even begin to discuss airmail, or air tracked. Solutions on a postcard please.
