First Edition. 89 pages; limited edition No. 34 of 200; German text printed in red & black; followed by tipped-on color plates of the original medieval French story; previous owner name & inscription in pencil on endpaper of Erich Pfeiffer-Belli (sometimes pseud. 'Andreas Heldt') (1901 - 1989) German journalist and writer, especially on artistic matters, educated at the Bauhaus and in the bookbinding workshop of Paul Klee. Pfeiffer-Belli wrote on Klee and several other artists as well as the poet Rilke; approx. 10" x 13" size; bound in light gray polished paper over boards, vellum spine & tips some edge-wear, soiling to the boards; first couple of leaves with old small discoloration at top edge, leaves with some rolling, wrinkling; otherwise contents clean and in very good condition; the cover of the binding with an original pencil and pastel watercolor design by Pfeiffer-Belli, with his small sigil bottom left in pencil dated 1923; the design offers the title of the book surrounded by a circular, flowing futurist motif, descending diagonally across the board; very well - done and with blue and yellow color accents; an original artwork.
