Description:

Printed by the Grabhorn Press. An association copy, with a neat ink gift inscription on the front FEP signed by the author and presented to the pre-eminent San Franciscan, Alfred Sutro, and with the front pastedown bearing Alfred Sutro's distinctive gold on black morocco book plate. One of 100 copies printed in July 1934. 9.75 x 6.5 inches. Vellum [or vellum-like] spine with charming decorative paper hardboards, brown-on-brown subtle basketweave design. Gold-stamped title to the spine. Unbumped spine head and tail, and with fairly sharp corners. With the text block firmly bound in. Fore edge deckled to a handsome effect. No evidence of shelf pull. Choice typefaces and typesetting. Contains 47 numbered pp. Slight off-setting to the FEPs from the pastedowns. Else a very clean copy. The poems in the book are, for the most part, written in deliberately archaic styles. Also present is a letter from the author on University Club stationary. The letter is type-written and is an original poem by the author or at any rate a first draft of a poem. At the bottom of the letter in neat brown ink: "Dear Alfred [Sutro]. This may interest you. T.H.B." A Near Fine copy in a Very Good DJ. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Bookseller Inventory #
