About the Author: Dr Brent Elliott is librarian and archivist to The Royal Horticultural Society and author of numerous articles and books, including the recently published Flora: an illustrated history of the garden flower (Scriptum-Cartago, 2001). He has written introductions and captions to the RHS diaries since 1993 and provided the illuminating text for The Royal Horticultural Society Book of Days, The Language of Flowers.
