About this Item

FIRST PRINTING. INSCRIBED BY STRONG on the front free endpaper as follows: "To/ Stanley North/ a good friend/ Kendrick Strong." 8vo. (21 cm.) [6]vii-ix[1]1-194p. Brown cloth with letters in brown on the spine and various brand marks in brown on the front cover. The brand marks on the front cover and the dust jacket are registered cattle brands of the western plains. Born in Des Moines, Iowa, Kendrick Strong was the grandson of a Santa Fe Railroad's Builder-President. He was educated at Beloit College (Phi Beta Kappa), Yale Divinity School, and Hartford Seminary, where he received his B.D. After serving in a western parish, Strong went on to become Pastor of First Congregational Church, Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Even though the geography and the persons have been disguised in this account, it is an actual record of the work of Strong and his brother Robert to bring Christianity to a western plains community. Previous owner's bookplate (Rev. Stanley U. North, to whom the book is inscribed), else near fine/ Jacket slightly faded and slightly chipped. Bookseller Inventory # 04865
