An original issue of 16 pages dated August 1, 1891 -- On page 76 it is noted that on July 21, 1891 two patents were issued to T. A. EDISON, they were (1) patent # 456,302 for "Phonograph", (2) patent # 456,301 for "Phonograph DOLL", also on page 66 there is an expansive article with engraving titled "Edison Dynamo and Motor", this is a historic event and highly desireable to collectors of Edison's work and scientific events -- Other items of note with engravings are: Front page "The United States Drilling Scow General Newton", on page 70 "Sand Pumps in Operation Removing Sand and Gravel", on page 71 a interesting article with engraving titled "Breech-Loading Magazine Gun Patented by Mr. James Puckle in 1718", plus many others -- As always the pages of advertisements are fascinating - (there is a very small tear to bottom of front page, a small address label is affixed to the back cover) -- The publisher proclaims their publication to be "A Weekly Journal of Practical Information, Art, Science, Mechanics, Chemistry, and Manufactures". -- An excellent opportunity for the collector and researcher. -- Frank Luther Mott, winner of The Pulitzer Prize for hid History of American Magazines, states that "The Scientific American had a significance--at least for its first sixty or seventy years--unapproached in kind and effect by any other periodical". -- Frank Luther Mott, winner of The Pulitzer Prize for his History of American Magazines, states that "The Scientific American had a significance--at least for its first sixty or seventy years--unapproached in kind and effect by any other periodical" -- This paper is technically referred to as a periodical, actually it is a Historical Document, recording events at the time of their occurence. -- **** NOTE-- This issue has been stored in, and will be shipped in, an ACID FREE ARCHIVAL FOLDER with a Mylar Overlay.
