Kinman, in three-quarter profile from breast height, looking to his right. He is wearing a fur headband, with his hair bunched to point straight up. Mount text continues, 'Entered according to Act of Congress, by Seth Kinman, in the year 1865 in the Clerk's Office of the District Court for the District of Columbia. Brady Washington. Seth Kinman was famous for being famous in the middle of the 19th century. He was a hunter, trapper, and Indian killer in Humboldt County, California, and he ran a saloon filled with taxidermy and other weird stuff on Table Bluff. He gained notoriety for giving a couple of presidents chairs made of elk horns. He also made chairs out of bear paws and fiddles from skulls. A very good example. The photograph is very dark, with deep brown tones. Corners of mount rounded, a small spot in the caption, removed from an album, with loss to imprint on the back (verso).
