Add to basketBook of Kipling's poetry. Red board with gilt lettering. Much wear to edges, corner and spine. The upper part of the spine was cracked and repaired with glue and tape. Paper near front and back covers are browned with age but the inside pages are very good. Page are unevenly cut as was the practice in those days. 230 pages with followed by a long list of METHUEN books. Ex-owner's book plate inside front cover. Association copy: the previous owner was Harvey Newton Brown (retired colonel USA, 33 degree freemason and writer of literature on freemasonry). Brown wrote "Freemasonry among Negroes and whites in America;: A study in Masonic legitimacy and regularity." 230 pages with followed by a long list of METHUEN books. Brown's freemasonry association is shown on page 196 next to the poem "The Mother Lodge"--Brown pasted in a typewritten note: "An English Freemason [Kipling]. back in England from 'Out There' in India, where he was a Mason, reminisces about his Mother Lodge. Bro. Kipling was, of course taking 'poetic license,' for the lodge never existed. so he was expressing his "Dream of Freemasonry,' of his idealism.".
